Description
A 21-year-old man accused of shooting into a crowd during a busy Halloween weekend in Ybor City will remain in jail before trial, according to the state attorney's office.
Dwayne Tillman Jr. faces charges of attempted second-degree murder and attempted aggravated battery with a firearm for the Oct. 29 shooting. Authorities said that video evidence and statements from witnesses determined that Tillman fired a gun and shots went into the crowd in Ybor City.
Two other suspected gunmen, Kadyn Abney, 14; and Tyrell Phillips, 22; face second-degree murder charges.
Two people — 20-year-old Harrison Boonstoppel and 14-year-old Elijah Wilson — were killed in the shooting in the busy area of East 7th Avenue and North 17th Street and 16 people were hurt. Of those, 15 were shot and one other was seriously injured, police said at the time.
The state attorney's office argued to the judge that Tillman's "willful disregard for human life" means he remains an ongoing threat to the community.
A bond will not be issued for Tillman, which would have allowed him to be out of jail prior to trial.
