Republican Senator Markwayne Mullin, of Oklahoma, was admonished by Sen. Bernie Sanders during a committee hearing on Nov. 14 in Washington, DC, after challenging one of the speakers, the head of the Teamsters union, to a physical fight. The argument happened during a Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) hearing. Sen. Markwayne Mullin recalled an interaction that took place between him and Sean O’Brien, General President of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, during a hearing in March. Mullin then drew attention to a June 21 post made by O’Brien on X, formerly known as Twitter, in which O’Brien mocked Mullin as a “greedy CEO who pretends like he’s self-made” and appeared to challenge Mullin to a confrontation outside the Senate chambers. Mullin responded, asking "You wanna do it now?" "Well stand your butt up, then," Mullin followed as he stood up, seemingly in preparation for a physical fight. "Oh no. Sit down. You sit down. Okay. No, you're a United States Senator. Sit down. Okay. Sit down please," Sen. Bernie Sanders intervened.
