LIVE TROPICS UPDATE | Meteorologist Bobby Deskins breaks down the hurricane and storm surge threat Tropical Storm Idalia poses in the coming days.
Tropical Storm Idalia is forecast to be a hurricane when it makes landfall by midweek somewhere along Florida's west coast, bringing an array of impacts, including a "life-threatening" storm surge, gusty winds and heavy rain.
A hurricane watch is in effect from Englewood to Indian Pass — this includes the Tampa Bay region. A storm surge watch is in effect for Chokoloskee to Indian Pass, Florida, including Tampa Bay.
Tropical Storm Idalia has maximum sustained winds of 40 mph and is located about 95 miles east-southeast of Cozumel, Mexico, according to the National Hurricane Center's latest advisory. It's moving northeast at 3 mph.
