Description
A brush fire scorched through 30 acres of land Sunday afternoon on the north end of Egmont Key, fire officials said.
Crews with the Lealman Fire District and Tierra Verde Fire District responded to the fire starting around 4:30 p.m. The fire was successfully extinguished Sunday night, the Lealman Fire District told 10 Tampa Bay.
Two Hillsborough County air units were using Bambi buckets to assist with putting out the flames, officials say. Due to the brush fire, six people were evacuated from the area. Luckily, there were no reported injuries to people or animals and no structures were damaged.
Crews from the U.S. Coast Guard station in St. Petersburg also assisted to remove all vessels surrounding the island as the fire spread.
