Tropical Depression Two developed Thursday afternoon in the northwestern Gulf of Mexico just off Florida's coast — coinciding with the first day of the 2023 Atlantic hurricane season. As of the 11 p.m. advisory, the National Hurricane Center says the depression is moving slowly southward and is expected to remain offshore and be short-lived. It is a 35-mph depression located about 290 miles west-northwest of Fort Myers, according to the NHC.
