Description
BACK HOME 🐢❤️ Two loggerhead sea turtles are back where they belong thanks to Mote Marine Laboratory's Sea Turtle Rehabilitation Hospital and The Florida Aquarium Turtle Rehabilitation Center.
The two turtles, named Valerie and Mahomes, were rescued back in February.
Valerie was found floating near the shore on Longboat Key and was believed to have been suffering from red tide toxins, Mote shared.
Mahomes was found washed ashore off Casey Key Road in Sarasota County, and was also thought to be impacted by red tide. Due to the "high numbers of incoming sea turtle patients affected by toxic red tide exposure," Mahomes underwent care at The Florida Aquarium Turtle Rehabilitation Center after a stint with Mote.
"Under the meticulous care of both facilities' dedicated staff members, Valerie and Mahomes have made remarkable recoveries, successfully clearing all health assessments mandated by wildlife officials and were cleared for release," marine life experts at Mote said.
Valerie and Mahomes returned to sea on Tuesday at Anna Maria Bayfront Park. #10TampaBay
