After Florida House lawmakers on Thursday passed a controversial bill effectively banning abortions after six weeks, it was sent to Gov. Ron DeSantis' desk for his signature. DeSantis went on to sign the bill, dubbed the "Heartbeat Protection Act," into law late the same evening without prior announcement.
