Description
As Dalai Lama turns 90 in July, the question of his succession becomes ever more pressing. His translator of four decades believes the post, which he likens to a "papal instutition" for Tibetan Buddhist communities, will continue.
"The idea of a world where there is no Dalai Lama is almost unthinkable, especially for Tibetans," says Thupten Jinpa, 66, a Buddhist scholar who helped produce the leader's latest book, "Voice for the Voiceless". IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
