Description
For two days and thirty-six hours, on Thursday 17 and Friday 18 April 2025, sixteen trainees from diverse backgrounds in the private and public sectors took part in a high-intensity practical crisis management training course at the Garrigues military camp in Nîmes. In one of the four exercises, they had to manage the hostage-taking of an oil company CEO and his wife and set up two crisis units: an operational command post led by the Orange branch of the GIGN (French national police special forces) and a crisis unit at the multinational company's headquarters. The assault by the PSIG in Vauvert(Gard) was the highlight of the exercise, which lasted eleven hours between 9 p.m. and 8 a.m. The outcome of the operation: three hostage-takers were killed, another was arrested and the two hostages were freed, unharmed.
