"I don't believe for a second that the state could abandon Perrier," says the mayor of Vergèze, a town holding its breath as it awaits the decision of the Gard prefecture on the renewal of the authorisation to exploit the famous spring under the 'natural mineral water' designation. For several months, Nestle Waters, the owner of Perrier—an internationally renowned company founded in 1903—has been at the centre of controversy regarding its past use of water disinfection treatments.
