Description
Every year, following Amsterdam's boisterous King's Day celebrations, the Dutch capital's canals are littered with plastic waste. Dutch company Plastic Whale - which specialises in 'upcycling', or repurposing, plastic fished out of the canals - has been organising a canal clean-up event, gathering about 250 volunteers, armed with nets and roaming the waters. Founder Marius Smit says the company are planning to build a "floating Amsterdam canal house" made from the plastic they find this year. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
