Francois Fillon "has declared and agreed to repay all the sums definitively charged to him and his wife," says the French Parliament's lawyer, Yves Claisse, as he leaves the Paris courtroom where the former prime minister was sentenced to a four-year suspended prison sentence, a fine of 375,000 euros and a 10-year ban from holding public office in the case of fictitious jobs for his wife, Penelope. Francois Fillon was finally sentenced in April 2024 for embezzlement of public funds, among other charges, but the Court of Appeal had ordered a retrial dedicated solely to the sentence.
