Police clash with May Day demonstrators in Istanbul, with this year's marches coming amid a government showdown against the main opposition Republican People's Party (CPH) following the detention of its presidential candidate. The city was paralysed on Wednesday when authorities closed metro trains, buses and ferries in an effort to prevent demonstrations.
