Description
State governors from northeast Nigeria call on government security forces to rethink their counter-insurgency strategy, after more than 100 people were killed last month in jihadist attacks. The region has seen an upsurge in Islamist militant attacks in recent weeks, reigniting a grinding conflict over the last 16 years that has left more than 40,000 dead and displaced two million. "Addressing the security challenges in the northeast require a multidimensional approach of not only the kinetic strategy but also address the root causes such as youth employment," says Agbu Kefas, Taraba State governor at the 11th North-East Governors Forum in in the Yobe state capital Damaturu.
