Description
In Niger’s capital Niamey, the once-imposing scenes of trucks, camel caravans, and donkeys returning at nightfall loaded with large quantities of wood has become rare-- as jihadists increasingly encroach in forested areas. The city of nearly two million is now struggling to get crucial wood supplies from the country's southwestern region, where the jihadists have banned the trade in timber." They’ve issued us several warnings," says Mamane Seydou, secretary general of the National Association of Timber Harvesters of Niger (ANEB). IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
