Description
Before Sudan's brutal war began in April 2023, the National Museum in Khartoum stood as a testament to thousands of years of Sudanese history. Now, it is a shell of its former self, its priceless contents emptied out, looted and shattered throughout the nearly two years that the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) held control of central Khartoum. Following the army’s recapture of the city in March, antiquities experts are only just now tallying the extent of the invaluable heritage lost, in hopes of one day recovering it. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
