Description
"I have a swollen spinal cord, a broken shoulder blade, another injury on the knee with multiple lacerations. I have stitches in my head. And I could go on and on," says Jenire Mena, a Venezuelan migrant in the Dominican Republic, sitting next to her walker.
While the 40-year-old undergoes a long rehabilitation to walk again, another Dominican woman, Carmen Guante, takes medication to sleep and escape the painful memory of the night of April 7-8, a month earlier, when the roof of a nightclub in Santo Domingo collapsed, killing 233 people, including one of her friends.
