Description
Vietnamese Buddhists welcome the relics of Shakyamuni Buddha in Hanoi during Waisak, or Vesak Day celebrations. Vesak is the most sacred day for Buddhists, commemorating the birth, enlightenment and death of Siddhartha Gautama, the Buddha, all traditionally believed to have occurred on the full moon day of the Vesakha month in the ancient Indian lunar calendar.
Vietnam is the fourth country exhibiting the relics of Shakyamuni Buddha. “It is a great joy for our country,” Hanoi resident Ngo Truong Giang, 80, tells AFP. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
