Description
A 17-year-old boy was killed and a 16-year-old was injured after an off-duty Jacinto City police officer opened fire on them after encountering them in his backyard early Thursday morning, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident unfolded around 4:15 a.m. in the Cloverleaf neighborhood of east Harris County, following what deputies now say was a shootout between two groups, including some teenagers, on Crosshaven Drive.
Neighbors reported hearing multiple rounds of gunfire during the initial exchange, which happened about a block away from the officer’s home.
According to investigators, the 16- and 17-year-old males fled on foot after the shootout. At some point, the teens entered the backyard of the off-duty officer, and one of them attempted to enter the home, prompting the officer to fire.
