In Colorado, truckers have to carry chains through May and with good reason. A big winter storm hit the high country on May 6 and 7, dropping anywhere from 4 inches of snow to a foot in the mountains west of Denver and east of the Continental Divide. We spotted one trucker try to drive without chains and get stuck. Once he got some chains he was on a roll, showing the importance of chains and adequate snow tires even into May.
