Description
For many of the former residents of Unisen Senior Living Community, the arrest of Ronald Schuck does not comes as a surprise—but as a long-overdue step toward justice.
The 92-unit facility in Tampa, once a vibrant residential hub for retirees, now stands silent and empty. Its doors closed last spring after Tampa Life Plan Village, the organization that owned it, filed for bankruptcy. Now, the man who oversaw its operations faces criminal charges connected to the closure.
Authorities arrested Ronald Richard Schuck, president of Tampa Life Plan Village, on April 29 in Pinellas County. Investigators accuse Schuck of misusing funds, failing to provide essential care, and forcing more than 100 elderly residents to abruptly find new living arrangements in 2024.
"To be in a place that you thought was perfect… It was devastating," said Jim Griffin, a former resident of Unisen.
"When you move to a place like this, you think mentally, 'OK, this is the last place I'm ever going to live,' and then I'm just going to check out."
Griffin lived at Unisen during the collapse and now lives in South Carolina after his daughter came to his rescue. Like many residents, he was shocked to see the community go from hopeful revitalization to abrupt abandonment.
