Description
The family of Jose Castro is preparing to say their final goodbyes Saturday morning, just days after a tragic ferry boat crash in Clearwater took his life. Loved ones remember him as a man who was always smiling — someone who radiated positivity and joy.
Castro, originally from Peru, came to the United States in search of a better life. His cousin, Maria Escurra, helped him adjust during those early days and remembers him fondly.
"I remember good things about my cousin. It’s a very sad story — it’s a tragedy,” Escurra said. “He was always happy. I saw him with his children, with my aunt — very loving and affectionate. Even with Sandy, he was always glowing.”
Sandy, Jose’s sister and closest friend, is heartbroken.
"I'm devastated. I wasn’t expecting this. I wasn’t expecting someone to take my brother’s life at 41 years old. My brother was full of life," she said in a tearful interview.
