Description
A 17-year-old was hospitalized in critical condition after being shot during a drug deal gone wrong, according to Manatee County deputies.
The boy was with a 17-year-old girl when they drove to a pool at 1:30 a.m. Sunday in Parrish for a "narcotics transaction."
While the two were in the car, they were approached by a man and woman, and the man shot the boy who was driving the car. The two suspects then fled west on foot while the victim and the girl drove away from the scene and later flagged down a deputy for help.
The boy was airlifted to a Tampa hospital in critical condition while deputies began to investigate the scene. They used a K-9 to track the suspects, which led them to a nearby residence.
Multiple residents also called in to report two teens running through the neighborhood. One resident also said the suspect fitting the description was behind their house in the woods and threw a backpack into the woods.
Deputies found the backpack, and inside was a gun and clothing that matched the suspects' initial outfits, according to a news release.
When the K-9 led deputies to the nearby home, they found the back sliding glass door was open. Deputies found two teens inside the house, a 16-year-old boy and a 15-year-old girl, who were both taken into custody after matching the descriptions of the suspects.
The boy was charged with attempted murder.
The 17-year-old boy who was shot underwent surgery and is expected to make a full recovery, according to a spokesperson for the sheriff's office.
