Description
A man is behind bars following a deadly shooting early Sunday morning at an apartment complex in Tampa.
Jesiah Deangelo-Cruz, 19, has been charged with premeditated first-degree murder with a firearm after a man was shot to death at the complex, located at 12401 Orange Grove Drive, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said in a news release.
The shooting happened around 3:45 a.m. Deputies arrived to find a man with multiple gunshot wounds before he was declared dead at AdventHealth Carrollwood Hospital.
After a homicide investigation was launched, detectives identified Deangelo-Cruz as the suspect, the agency said. Deputies soon obtained an arrest warrant for the 19-year-old in connection with a domestic violence incident.
Deputies were able to capture and arrest Deangelo-Cruz in Pasco County with help from the Pasco County Sheriff's Office. As the investigation progressed, detectives uncovered additional evidence linking the 19-year-old to the deadly shooting.
On Monday, April 21, another arrest warrant was issued, charging Deangelo-Cruz with premeditated first-degree murder with a firearm. The 19-year-old is currently being held in Pasco County and is awaiting extradition, the agency said.
"This suspect made a devastating and violent choice that took an innocent life. Thanks to the determined efforts of our detectives, he is now charged and will face the full consequences of his actions," Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister stated in the release. "We hope this brings comfort to the victim's loved ones, and we will continue working closely with our partners to ensure the suspect is held fully accountable."
