Description
May 12 on The Story: Cannon Beach is a close-knit community, one where people tend to get involved in the local political process. But the coming special election has become a source of friction, as voters are set to decide on two diametrically opposed ballot measures — one of which would require a public vote on virtually all city projects set to cost over $6.5 million. Supporters of that measure say they feel ignored in the normal public comment process on some of these big projects, so they're injecting a way for the public — every Cannon Beach voter — to say yay or nay on every costly endeavor. But opponents, many of them on the current city council, say it will ultimately bog down city business and cause them to lose out on competitive grants.
