Description
A middle school employee in Pinellas County is behind bars after being charged with sexual battery of a child under 12 years old.
According to the Pinellas Park Police Department, Joshua Tybeck, 47, was employed as a plant operator at Morgan Fitzgerald Middle School for about two years.
Details into the incident are limited at this time, however, investigators say it happened in 2020. The victim was six years old, and Tybeck was a family friend with no familial ties to the child, according to police.
In a statement, the Pinellas County School District confirmed that Tybeck had been fired.
"The Pinellas County School District has zero tolerance for staff behavior that jeopardizes student safety or the integrity of our schools. The charges against Tybeck allegedly occurred more than five years prior to his employment;. Hired as a night-time custodian in October 2023, Tybeck cleared all background screenings and requirements. Tybeck is no longer employed by the school district. Since this is an open investigation, please direct any questions regarding this case to the Pinellas Park Police Department."
An investigation is ongoing. Authorities are asking anyone with more information to contact the Pinellas Park Police Department.
