An investigation is underway after a Sarasota police officer fired at a dog while responding to a call Tuesday morning. In a post shared on Facebook, the Sarasota Police Department said officers were called to a home on North Links Avenue. The department said the "aggressive pitbull" approached one of the responding officers, prompting the officer to fire their weapon to "ensure safety." Authorities have not confirmed whether the officer or the dog sustained any injuries. Sarasota police said the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) was notified and will conduct an independent investigation into the incident. No further details have been released at this time.
