Description
Transitioning out of school and into the workforce can be a stressful process for many. Often, one question comes to mind for recent graduates entering the job market: What city should I begin my career in?
According to a new WalletHub study, three cities in Florida are among the best places in the U.S. to begin a career.
Tampa was ranked the third-best city overall, and it saw the highest entry-level jobs per capita. Meanwhile, researchers found that Orlando is the second-best city to start a career in. Miami (No. 5) also made the list.
The study compared 182 cities overall, including the most populated ones and at least two of the most populated cities in each state across two key dimensions — "professional opportunities" and "quality of life." Within those two dimensions, researchers analyzed and gathered data across various metrics.
For professional opportunities, the study looked closer at:
Availability of entry-level jobs,
4+ star company jobs per total people in labor force,
Monthly average starting salary,
Annual job growth rate and Median-income growth rate,
Share of workers in poverty,
Workforce diversity and job satisfaction,
Unemployment rate/underemployment rate,
Career counselors per 1,000 workers,
Entrepreneur-friendliness, and
MSA GDP growth rate
For quality of life, the study looked closer at:
Median annual income,
Average length of work week,
Commuter-friendly jobs,
Average commute time,
Share of population aged 25 to 34,
Share of millennial newcomers,
Share of adults aged 25 and older,
Projected population growth,
Housing affordability,
Fun-friendliness, family-friendliness, and singles-friendliness
