As the U.S. Army, Navy and Marine Corps celebrate their 250th anniversaries this year, a unique event is helping military families across the Tampa Bay area prepare to celebrate in style. For the first time ever in Florida, Operation Deploy Your Dress is hosting a special pop-up boutique in Riverview. The event, organized by the Suncoast Chapter of the Association of the United States Army, aims to make sure military service members and their families look and feel their best during this milestone year. Founded and run by military spouses, Operation Deploy Your Dress offers racks of formal gowns that are free and for keeps to anyone with a valid military ID — a servicemember, veteran, spouse or daughter. “It’s very much that ‘Cinderella moment’ where it’s like, ‘I can go now!’” Co-founder and CEO Yvonne Coombes said. “That big piece that was maybe keeping them from getting there — like the cost of a dress, which can be very pricey — has been taken off their minds and out of their pocketbooks," she added. The event comes just in time for one of the year’s most anticipated military traditions: the 250th U.S. Army Birthday Ball, happening June 14 in Tampa. Tickets are on sale now through May 30. Military families can shop for their perfect gown on Friday and Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at American Legion Post 148 at 7240 U.S. 301 in Riverview. If you have a new or gently used dress and/or accessories, they will gladly accept your donation. You can drop those off at the American Legion Post 148 during the same timeframe.
