Description
Nine inmates are still on the run after a large-scale escape from the Orleans Parish Jail overnight, with one -- Kendall Myles -- captured so far in what authorities call a breach of public safety.
The sheriff's office said the breach was enabled by defective cell locks, a blind spot in security cameras and possibly help from inside the jail.
One inmate, Kendall Myles, has been captured. He was found hiding beneath a car at the Hotel Monteleone parking garage and taken back into custody by Louisiana State Police. He has since been rebooked for simple escape.
The Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office (OPSO) now confirms a total of 10 inmates escaped — not 11 as initially reported — and says one previously identified individual, Keith Louis, was mistakenly listed among the escapees but has since been accounted for.
