May 14 on The Story: Data released this week by the CDC shows that overdose deaths in the U.S. fell sharply last year, and that's true even in Oregon. But the turnaround isn't happening in all communities equally, and it's not necessarily a sign that the drug crisis is abating. In the coastal communities of Clatsop County, overdose deaths jumped last year, and they're on pace to match or overtake that number this year. It's a troubling reality for a place with few resources to respond — and the close proximity to the crisis makes it even more personal for the people who are trying to change the county's trajectory.
