Description
Two officers with the Mifflin Township Police Department were injured in a shooting Wednesday evening, according to the Franklin County Sheriff's Office.
More than 30 cruisers were seen at the intersection of Mecca Road and Perdue Avenue near Columbus’ northeast side.
According to Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #9 President Brian Steel, the officers were conducting traffic enforcement and stopped a car. Steel said at some point there was confrontation and both officers were shot.
The injured officers were taken to Grant Medical Center. Steel said one officer is in critical condition and another is described as stable.
The Columbus Division of Police said they are helping on scene and have one suspect in custody. Officers believe they have another individual surrounded, according to Steel.
Two Columbus officers were also injured in a crash at Weber Road and Cleveland Avenue while responding to the officer in trouble call, according to Steel. Both officers are described as stable.
Gahanna Division of Police, Columbus police, Franklin County Sheriff's Office, Mifflin Township Police Department, Ohio State Highway Patrol and the Mifflin Township Fire Department are all on scene. A police helicopter was also seen circling the scene.
The Bureau of Criminal Investigation was called to assist.
