Deputies and officials were lined up outside in Morrow County as they prepared to head down to Montgomery County.
The procession comes after Sherrer was shot and killed in the line of duty on May 26 while responding to a domestic situation on County Road 26 in Marengo.
According to an affidavit, Sherrer arrived at the address and spoke with a neighbor who said the suspect, identified as 53-year-old Brian Wilson, had a gun and fired it multiple times.
The neighbor also told Sherrer that Wilson reportedly stated, “If he was to die tonight, he’d be OK with it.”
Sherrer made his way to Wilson’s location and found him sitting on a porch with a firearm visible in his hand, the affidavit says.
Wilson allegedly told Sherrer not to come up to the porch and that he wasn’t in the mood.
Sherrer attempted to engage in conversation and de-escalate Wilson. According to the affidavit, Sherrer is seen on body camera video stepping back as Wilson threatens to kill him if he comes around the corner. Sherrer continued to engage in conversation and de-escalate Wilson.
According to the affidavit, Wilson warned Sherrer again reportedly saying, “I’m not [obscenity] playing. You better just [obscenity] go if you want your family to see you tomorrow.”
Wilson then approached the stairs where Sherrer was standing and gunfire was exchanged, court records say.
Sherrer was taken to a hospital where he died from his injuries. Wilson was also shot and taken to a hospital in serious condition. Court documents say he is charged with aggravated murder.
Two firearms were recovered from the scene. Both were suspected to have been used by Wilson.
The incident is under investigation by the Delaware County Sheriff's Office with assistance from the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation.
Details on Sherrer's funeral have not been finalized. A candlelight vigil will be held at the Morrow County Sheriff's Office at 8:30 p.m. Thursday.
