Description
A broad area of low pressure is spinning between the Yucatan Peninsula and Cuba in the Caribbean Sea. This area is known as Invest 93-L and we will be monitoring it this weekend for tropical development. Invest 93-L will likely develop into a tropical system during the early part of the new work week once it emerges into the eastern Gulf.
The National Hurricane Center has a high chance for development. The Euro has been more aggressive with development for the last few days, with the GFS now coming on board with a tropical storm developing. They both indicate a north/northeastward motion toward Florida's Big Bend once in the Gulf due to the upper trough and cold front. Dry air and wind shear could hinder development. Often in the genesis phase of a tropical system, much can happen and models aren't nearly as reliable. However, with models indicating more of an easterly trajectory, impacts are not expected at this point in SE LA and S MS. But, it's important to stay tuned to the latest forecasts as they can and will change throughout the weekend.
