We will be watching the Gulf of Mexico later this week/this weekend for possible tropical development. Some good news is that it is not a guarantee, as the probability still sits at a 40% chance for development by the end of this week. We'll be watching a large area of tropical moisture move north into the Gulf waters through the end of this week, lasting into early next week. This moisture will likely reach the northern Gulf Coast by Thursday. The steering currents will be weak, so this tropical moisture will stick around through the weekend and early next week. With the tropical moisture all trapped in the Gulf, we could begin to see some areas of low-pressure form by this weekend, and a depression or tropical storm could begin to form. Luckily the trend has been for a weak, messy system thanks to dry air and wind shear. This is something to monitor though as plenty of uncertainty remains in the forecast.
