Description
We will be watching the Gulf of Mexico later this week for possible tropical development. Some good news is that it is not a guarantee as the chance still sits at a 50% chance for development by the end of this week. We'll be watching a large area of tropical moisture move north into the Gulf waters through the middle of the week. This moisture will likely reach the northern Gulf Coast by Thursday.
That's when a weak, cool front moves in and begins to push the moisture slowly back to the south. With the tropical moisture all trapped in the Gulf, we could begin to see multiple areas of low-pressure form by this weekend, and a depression or tropical storm could begin to form. The steering currents aren't as clear, but right now, models have backed off on anything significant. While that is a good thing, we still need to monitor closely as more questions remain than answers.
