Tropical development in the Gulf of Mexico is very likely this week. As of Sunday evening, there is nothing to track yet because nothing has formed at this point. However, some showers and storms are firing up in the western Caribbean Sea, which will be the genesis of the eventual Gulf system later this week. By midweek, a disturbance will enter the southern Gulf of Mexico. It could be a tropical storm or hurricane when it reaches the northern Gulf Coast late next week. Models indicate that the system will make landfall in the Florida panhandle sometime late this week. However, this is still not certain and can change.
