Ernesto became a hurricane on Wednesday morning and is forecast to strengthen to a major hurricane in the coming days as it moves northward in the open Atlantic Ocean. It will pass near Bermuda this weekend likely as a strengthening hurricane of Category 2 or possibly Category 3 status. Impacts are expected in Bermuda by this weekend and hurricane watches are in effect for the island. Ernesto is forecast to stay away from the United States.
