Description
Chief Meteorologist Chris Franklin says Beryl slowly weakening due to increasing wind shear, but still a major hurricane when it reaches Jamaica.
Major Hurricane Beryl reached its peak this morning with winds of 165 mph. By midday, the storm finally started to feel the impacts of increasing wind shear and slowly started to weaken. It is back to a Category 4 and should continue weakening from Wednesday through the rest of the week as it first approaches Jamaica and the Cayman Islands, then the Yucatan. It's expected to then become a tropical storm as it enters the Bay of Campeche or SW Gulf with the upper ridge, it should not be able to move very far north along the western Gulf coast...maybe as far north as south Texas, but it'll be a much weaker system by then.
Invest 96 went from a high chance for development in the central Atlantic to medium yesterday and now low with none of the models aggressive with development as it appears to be more of a rain-maker moving into the Caribbean.
