Description
Lee has been gradually weakening as it begins its trek northward. On Thursday, Bermuda will begin to experience tropical storm-force winds. While the island will be spared a direct landfall, they will certainly see strong winds as mentioned, heavy rain, and beach hazards as Bermuda will be on the stronger side of Lee. Also, while the storm weakens, the wind field will expand in size. Strong rip currents are also expected all along the US East Coast. The storm will continue into New England and Nova Scotia as a tropical storm or post-tropical system by this weekend. Cape Cod and the islands off of Massachusetts will begin to feel tropical storm-force winds late Friday and Saturday. Coastal New England and Atlantic Canada will be dealing with some storm surge, strong wind gusts, and rain early this weekend.
Hurricane Margot is still spinning out in the east-central Atlantic. It is forecast to remain over open water.
Invest 97 and 98 sort of joined up as a broad area of low pressure just off of Africa southwest of Cabo Verde and will be the next one to watch. This will be a long-term area to monitor and so far models keep it away from the US East Coast later in the month.
Long-range models also keep the Gulf of Mexico and adjacent waters quiet through the next 10 days. As we tend to see the season settle for us by mid-October, that leaves 3 to 4 weeks. We'll still need to keep an eye on the tropics!
