Description
Chief Meteorologist Chris Franklin has the new track of Tropical Storm Karl.
The area we've been watching in the Bay of Campeche did erupt in thunderstorm activity this morning and after a reconnaissance flight by the Hurricane Hunters, it was determined that a closed circulation had formed with data supporting winds at the surface of 40 mph and thus Tropical Storm Karl has formed. It will likely remain nearly stationary with some additional strengthening possible in the next few days. Eventually the upper steering will force the center inland over Mexico, dissipating the storm before the weekend. Increasing wind shear over the northern and central Gulf will protect the northern Gulf.
