Description
Fiona is a Category 1 hurricane over eastern Dominican Republic and western Puerto Rico producing catastrophic flooding over Puerto Rico.
Fiona will curve north away from the Dominican Republic on Monday and Tuesday likely as a strengthening hurricane. It could even achieve Category 3 status by Tuesday as it heads north over the western Atlantic around a ridge of high pressure. If it reaches Category 3 with winds of 111-129 mph, it would be the first major hurricane of the Atlantic season.
Only one other spot is being monitored right now. It is in the northern central Atlantic and moving north. It has a low chance of development.
There are no tropical threats to southeast Louisiana and the Gulf Coast for the next five days or longer.
