Description
Chief Meteorologist Chris Franklin says in the Tuesday evening tropical update that while we may soon see our next named storm, it won't be a threat to the United States.
Not to jinx things, but while the NHC had at one time been highlighting 4 tropical waves, there are down to 2 and we still have not had a named storm. Not that I'm complaining! The one with the greatest chance, Invest 91, is in the central Atlantic. As it progresses toward the NW, it appears as though it will just clear the northern Lesser Antilles and begin a turn out to sea before reaching the Bahamas or US East coast. Another wave is just emerging off the Africa coast with a medium chance for development in the next 3 to 5 days. Too far for it to be a concern and a long time to watch, but early indication are that it too shouldn't be a threat. Long-range GFS has not been trending quiet in the tropical Atlantic for the first half of September! While I never buy into the long-range models, it is worth noting the more aggressive GFS keeps us quiet through the peak of the season. We'll see!
