A once-bustling waterpark may finally get a fresh start, this time as workforce housing. Fort Rapids has sat empty for nearly a decade, plagued by code violations and court battles. A west coast developer and a local church are teaming up to reimagine the space. Drever Partners LLC, also known as Drever Capital Management, is awaiting court approval to purchase the property. The company is known for redeveloping broken properties. "It’s a great location right on I-70. It's such an eyesore. I think it could be one of our most amazing turnarounds ever," said Maxwell Drever, an advisor for Drever Partners. The space is intended to become at least 250 workforce housing units with a possible community center. Worldfire Church is also interested in getting in on the developments. "I drive by this property five to six times a week and every time I drive by, I say the same thing, 'What a shame,'" said Josh Lawrence, the senior lead pastor for WorldFire Church. Lawrence said there are visions to develop a drive-up food bank on the property. While ideas are still in the works, stakeholders are working to gather community support. "We are looking for a collaborative effort and we want this to be a representation of Columbus, rather than reinvent the wheel on some programs. We’re looking at, man, who is doing amazing things in Columbus and how can we use this site and location and resources to be able to amplify what's already happening," said Lawrence. According to the city attorney's office, a motion has been filed in probate court and a ruling is expected by the end of the month to determine whether Drever Partners is approved to purchase the property.
