Description
The Marysville Police Division released new body camera and dash camera videos on Tuesday showing the moments leading to a man reportedly firing at officers and leading them on a pursuit last week.
Around 2:15 a.m. on Friday, officers were called to the 900 block of White Oak Court on a report of a domestic dispute.
Body camera video shows officers arriving at the home and encountering 29-year-old Dustin Ohm in the driveway near a truck.
Officers began talking with Ohm for several minutes when he asked if he was being detained.
"We’re investigating a dispute," an arriving officer said.
"What’s the dispute about?" Ohm asked.
"That’s what we’re trying to figure out," the officer replied.
Officers continued to speak with Ohm for several more minutes.
At some point not shown on video, Ohm got into the truck and drove through the yard, stopping with one tire on the road near the curb. The body camera video shows officers asking him to get out of the vehicle and he replies, "For what? What did I do?"
Ohm is heard on video refusing to leave the truck and saying that he was "not drunk," insisting that the officers let him take a blood test.
He and the officers go back and forth for another short period before Ohm suddenly starts the truck and pulls into the street, hitting two trash cans. He stopped a short distance away before circling back near the officers.
"Hey, stop the car," an officer yelled at Ohm. "Put your hands up. Stop the car. Get out of the vehicle now."
"This is not gonna end well. I didn't do [expletive]," Ohm said in response.
Officers proceed to order Ohm to get out of the car, to which he replies, "Shoot me. Kill me," several times.
For more than 10 minutes, the officers continued talking with Ohm to get him to turn the vehicle off.
Suddenly, Ohm revved the truck engine, prompting officers to run up to the vehicle. One of the officers approached the driver’s side window and displayed a stun gun.
Multiple gunshots were fired in quick session and the video shows the driver’s side window breaking. The officer who approached Ohm fell to the ground and deployed her stun gun.
Ohm then starts driving away and more shots are fired. Officers begin pursuing Ohm’s vehicle.
The pursuit ends when Ohm’s vehicle stopped in the grassy median of U.S. 33 near Northwest Parkway. He got out of the vehicle with his firearm and a deputy approached him.
Multiple gunshots can be heard on dash camera video. Police said in a press release that Ohm was struck by gunfire multiple times.
Body camera video shows Ohm in the median. Officers ordered him to lay down on his stomach, which he eventually did. Officers walked over to him and placed him under handcuffs.
While placing him under handcuffs and patting him down, one of the officers noticed a wound on Ohm’s neck. Police begin to give him medical treatment and put pressure on his wound.
One of the officers is heard on video asking Ohm how he got the wound and whether he shot himself. Ohm responded with “Yes” as it appeared that he was struggling to breathe.
The officer pointed out that he also had wounds on his left shoulder and lower abdomen.
Ohan was taken to a hospital in the Marysville area and later transported to another hospital in Columbus.
He was charged with attempted aggravated murder and police said he could face additional charges.
Police added that the officer who approached Ohm’s vehicle on White Oak Court was injured and taken to a hospital to be treated. She was later released.
The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is assisting with the investigation.
