Several large fires have been burning for over a week now, and that's been lofting all of the smoke higher up into the atmosphere. We're talking about some of the smoke getting up to above 20,000 feet.
It's been lofted very high, the same level that commercial airliners fly at, and so far, a lot of that smoke has been staying higher up, just giving that hazy sky appearance.
Towards the end of the week, we may see some air quality impacts as a frontal system works through the region.
As that system is moving through, it's actually pulling down some of that smoke closer to the surface and that's lowering the air quality already in Minnesota, parts of Iowa and Wisconsin on Tuesday.
It's something that we're going to be tracking as we get closer to the end of the week, as rain showers and storms are in the forecast for Thursday and Friday.
As of now, projections are for moderate levels of reduced air quality, but that may change as the system moves closer to Ohio Wednesday night into Thursday and Friday.
Our 10 Weather Impact team will be tracking that for you through the week.
