Description
International experts will join Irish counterparts in uncovering an unmarked mass burial site for children at a former mother and baby home in Tuam, western Ireland, the excavation team's director says. "We have assembled an excellent, world-class forensic team," says Daniel MacSweeney, adding that "we cannot underestimate the complexity of the task before us". Staff from Colombia, Spain, the UK, Canada and the US have joined the Office of the Director of Authorised Intervention (ODAIT) team, ahead of the full-scale excavation of the site which is set to begin next week. The process will involve exhumation, analysis, identification if possible, and re-interment of the remains of infants who died at the home between 1925 and 1961. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
