Description
In southern Bavaria, the world-famous Neuschwanstein Castle becomes a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Three other royal residences, known as "dreams in stones", also constructed in the late 19th Century under the famously arts-obsessed King Ludwig II of Bavaria, will also be added to the list: Herrenchiemsee, Linderhof and Schachen. These monuments have been officially applying for this status since 2015. "These castles are so powerful in their appearance, we could say iconic," says Peter Seibert, construction head at the Bavarian Castles Administration. "It's part of the Bavarian identity because, of course, it's now become an image of Bavaria and Germany abroad," he adds. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
