Dozens of people gather in Toulouse to demand the release of Lebanese activist Georges Ibrahim Abdallah, 74, who was convicted in Paris in 1987 of complicity in the assassination of American and Israeli diplomats. He is considered France’s longest-serving prisoner. A former leader of a small group of pro-Palestinian Marxist Lebanese Christians, Abdallah has been behind bars since 1984. Although eligible for release for the past 25 years, his repeated requests for freedom have been denied. On July 17, he is expected to learn whether the courts will finally allow him to return home.
