Description
The foot sinking into the moss but coming out almost dry is a clear sign that the Tuile peat bog in Puy-de-Dôme, a region in the centre of France, which should be wet, has been damaged by years of forestry. Now, major restoration is needed to protect this important ecosystem from climate change. "The changes in the peat bog are very likely linked to these ditches, but also, to some extent, to climate change, which has caused much more severe droughts and higher temperatures," says Caroline Folliet, director of the Southeast agency of CDC Biodiversity.
